ELMBRIDGE RESIDENTS GROUP WELCOMES NEW MEMBER

Elmbridge Residents Group, which runs the coalition with the Liberal Democrats that leads Elmbridge Borough Council, has welcomed a new member: Cllr Simon Waugh.

Cllr Waugh, who is Deputy Mayor in 2021/22, has represented the Esher Ward since he was first elected in 2010. He is currently a member of the Planning Committee and the East Area Planning Sub-Committee. He is also Chair of the Trustees of Kings Georges Hall and a Trustee of the Henry Smith Charity.

Having represented the Conservatives since his election, Cllr Waugh has today announced that he has resigned his membership of the Conservative Group in Elmbridge and has joined the Esher Residents Association, to enable him to best continue his work on local issues.

A spokesperson for the Esher Residents Association (ERA) , which now has three Councillors in the Administration’s Elmbridge Residents Group, says: “We are delighted to have Elmbridge Borough Councillor, Simon Waugh, on board as part of the ERA team. Simon, the current Deputy Mayor, will be working together on the Council with the ERA’s Richard Williams and David Young. The work that Simon has undertaken on local issues, particularly on the battle to protect Sandown Park Racecourse from development on the Green Belt and the opening of Esher’s new theatre at King George’s Hall, is to be applauded.”

Cllr Waugh says: “I value the working relationships that I have forged with ERA committee members and look forward to working more closely with them in the future.”

Cllr Waugh’s move to the Elmbridge Residents Group in Elmbridge Borough Council, along with the defection of three other former Conservatives, means the current split of Councillors is: ERG and other independents) 23, Lib Dems 9 (in coalition with ERG) and Conservatives 17 (in opposition.)

Note to Editors:

ERG is made up of seven residents groups and village societies in Elmbridge whose Council representatives work together because we have shared concerns about local issues. We are all truly independent, without any attachment to political parties.
